Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip that we think you guys could have missed today –

Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

CHELSEA posted on the club website: ‘Alfie, who joined the Blues at 11 years old, started last season as captain of our Under-21s and made his senior debut after coming off the bench against Crystal Palace in December.

‘He went on to make 16 further first-team appearances and signed a new contract with the Blues in April. A first Chelsea goal soon followed as Alfie struck in a 6-0 victory over Everton.

‘A boyhood Blues fan, getting on the scoresheet at Stamford Bridge in front of the Shed End was a memorable moment for the young defender and his family.

‘We look forward to monitoring and supporting Alfie throughout his loan with the Blades – with the Championship season getting underway this weekend – and seeing his development.

‘Good luck, Alfie!’

There will be a lot of competition for places at CHELSEA this season – particularly in defence. I think it makes sense for Gilchrist to get some real experience on loan this year after breaking into the Blues’ squad last season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Sheffield United will be looking to make an ambitious return to the top tier at the first time of asking. If Gilchrist knows that he’s likely to get a lot of football at Brammall Lane, then it’s a move which could be beneficial for everyone

He needs to be playing football every week and not sitting on the bench – so as we said this is a great move for the lad to make as he will get the minutes that he needs over the next 12 months

And if he performs well this upcoming season – he will surely be given more of a chance in that Blues side next season.

CHELSEA TO GET COMAN CHANCE –

Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is still available for transfer as the German giants have recently signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

Enzo Maresca has been at the club for the past few months now and will be looking to bring in a few players that are able to make an impact for next season – as the feeling around the club is poor after a disappointing season.

There has been alot of players linked with a move to the club – but now it seems that they may be able to sign one of their long-term targets, Coman – ad he is seemingly a player that Bayern are open to selling in the coming transfer window.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Coman is unsure whether he has a place at Allianz Arena and talks have been opened up with a number of Premier League clubs. CHELSEA and Arsenal have been made aware of Coman’s availability.

The 28-year-old has also had long-standing interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, while clubs in Saudi Arabia would reportedly be willing to meet his £50m asking price.

And it has been claimed that Coman would be open to the idea of moving to Liverpool.

A few seasons ago Coman would have been a wonderful signing for CHELSEA – but now – he would not be.

It looks like he has lost that hunger and desire that made him one of the best n the world and we would not be surprised to see him leave Bayern – but not for the Blues – possibly for a mega money move to Saudi Arabia.

The Premier League is a place that he would probably struggle to play his best football – he is a brilliant player – but needs space to work his magic.

Add that to his injury issues – he could be a risky signing that is for sure.

WILDER DELIGHTED WITH GILCHRIST DEAL –

Chris Wilder has admitted his delight after Sheffield United signed Alfie Gilchrist on loan from Chelsea for the season

Gilchrist joined the CHELSEA Academy as an Under-11 and moved through the age groups at Cobham with his impressive performances impressing a number of coaches at the club

The defender enjoyed a breakthrough season with his boyhood club, making 12 appearances for former boss Mauricio Pochettino’s side and he has recently been rewarded with a new contract at the club.

However – the decision was made to allow him to leave the club on loan for the season and Sheffield United were the club that made an offer and convinced Chelsea to allow Gilchrist to leave the club, a move that Wilder is delighted with.

Chris Wilder told the club website: “The loan market tends to be one which intensifies later in the window, so we accepted we would have to wait a little longer if we wanted our top targets. Alfie was always one of those players who featured high on our wanted list.

“Everyone in the game is aware of Alfie and his abilities, so our pitch to him, and Chelsea, had to be spot on. There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes to get this deal through, and we’re looking forward to working with a really talented player.

“Alfie’s had a taste of playing at the highest level, and having spoken to him, he’s keen to get more games under his belt. He’s ready to take the next opportunity in his career and we’re delighted to have added him to our squad.”
