Chelsea have announced that Sam Kerr has agreed a new contract at the club, and the attacker is delighted with the deal.

he 30-year-old joined the Blues midway through the 2019/20 season and has played a starring role, with five Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups, two Continental Tyres League Cups and one Community Shield, while also reaching the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

She made her 100th CHELSEA appearance in our FA Cup fifth round victory over Arsenal in February and netted the winner in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May 2023.

On putting pen to paper on a new deal, Kerr commented: ‘It’s really exciting and a very proud moment for me. Having the opportunity to stay at a club like Chelsea means a lot to me. I’m really excited to continue to push and to try to win trophies.’

‘It has been unbelievable,’ added the forward. ‘When I came to Chelsea, I joined to win trophies and we’ve definitely done that. These last four years, I’ve made memories and done so many things that I never thought were possible.

‘My signing day we spoke about the FA Cup and I used to watch that at home and think how amazing it was. The fact we won three back-to-back FA Cups was incredible to me. It’s completely smashed my expectations of what Chelsea would be. Hence why I’ve stayed so long!

‘Once you get the taste of this club and the community that Chelsea creates, it’s unbelievable and Chelsea will always be a part of my life now, whether I play here or not.

‘I will always be a massive CHELSEA fan because of the opportunities the club has given me.’

General manager Paul Green added: ‘We are delighted that Sam has extended her deal with the club. Sam is a leader and one of the world’s best strikers and goalscorers.

‘She has been very important to our success, and we look forward to welcoming her back from injury next season.’

RANKINE EXCITED –

Wigan Athletic have announced the signing of forward Dion Rankine from Premier League side Chelsea on a three-year deal.

Having featured eight times for Chelsea U21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, the 21-year-old headed to Exeter City last summer for his first loan in professional football, where he was a huge success.

However – the decision was made by the player to seek a move away from CHELSEA as he knew his time was up – and Wigan come calling very quickly in order to get a transfer deal done for the lad.

And after making the summer move – Rankine has opened up and admitted just how excited and delighted he is with the switch: “I’m so excited to be here,” Dion expressed.

“It’s been in the works for a while, so I’m really excited to be here and get the deal done – I can’t wait to get out there in front of the fans now.

“It’s the right step for my career. I feel like I’ve got a really good opportunity to progress and develop, and I just want to play the best football that I can here.”

“It’s amazing. I’ve been to the training ground, and I’ve seen the stadium here, which is beautiful. When I was here last season with Exeter, I was taking pictures and thinking that the stadium is really nice, and hopefully, I can get playing as soon as possible.”

With one final message to supporters, Dion added: “I can’t wait to see you all soon and be out there in front of you all, and hopefully, get some goals and assists.’

TONEY READY FOR MOVE –

Chelsea linked Ivan Toney has admitted he will be ready if a big club comes calling for him this summer.

The transfer window is no officially open and it will give the likes of Chelsea a massive chance to start getting some deals done that will send a statement to the rest of the Premier League for new boss Enzo Maresca.

CHELSEA performed terribly last season and really struggled for goals, with Cole Palmer the only player to break the 20 goal barrier, so it is vital that the Blues board allow Maresca to add a new forward to that attack over the next few months.

The Brentford talisman was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in January, though a move for the England international failed to materialise, as he wanted to stay at Brentford and get back to his best after spending so much time out of the game.

However – There remains a strong possibility the ex-Peterborough United stat will be sold this transfer window, offering the Blues a possible second chance at a deal, which would likely cost them £60 million to wrap up.

Discussing the prospect of joining a top side this summer, Toney told talkSPORT: “Obviously, if it was to come, I would be ready regardless. But I’ve got to remain focused and not let other things and other noise get the best of me and just focus on what I need to do for my club.”

When Ivan Toney returned to action in the middle of that January window – many were expecting him to bang in the goals – but he really struggled in the final few months of the Premier League season.

CHELSEA know that signing Toney would bring a different aspect to that attack for the side – he is the type of player that could make a real difference, and because he did not score too many goals last season, they could get him for a bargain.

He is ready for that big move – it will just be interesting to see where he ends up.
