World class defender speaks on Chelsea links after club decide to sell

Barcelona defender and Chelsea target Ronald Araujo insists that he’s ‘calm’ amid speculation that the club will look to sell him this summer.

Maresca is the man that the Chelsea board feel can take the club forward after Mauricio Pochettino failed to impress as coach of the club last season – and the Italian will be backed in the transfer window.

And The Telegraph recently reported that the 44-year-old will prioritise signing a new defender as he looks to improve key areas of the squad that is lacking in real quality.

Araujo has been a player that has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the last few seasons and he could once again be on the transfer market if Barcelona make a decision on his future.

While the centre-back has been linked with a move away – the 25-year-old has repeatedly stressed his desire to stay at the Catalan outfit – but that may be about to change in the summer.

Araujo, 25, has been the subject of interest from Bayern Munich and continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea due to the La Liga giants’ dire financial situation, and the rumours that they are ready to do a transfer deal

Speaking ahead of representing Uruguay at the Copa America, the centre-back, who’s also able to play as a right-back, said: “Will I stay at Barcelona? I’m very well, I’m calm.

“I have a contract until 2026. My representatives will meet the club, but right now I’m focused on the national team”

If Barcelona make the decision to sell the defender in the Summer window – he would be a brilliant addition to that CHELSEA side – especially now that Thiago Silva has left the club and headed back to Brazilian football.

Maresca will want players that are proven at the very top of the game and he will need the backing of the board if he is to get the players he feels could take the club forward in the coming season.

Araujo would be a great signing for the club that is for sure.
