Chelsea have been backed to wrap up Declan Rice deal after submitting opening offer
Perry Groves has backed Chelsea to make a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, after reports suggested that an opening offer has been made
Chelsea may have a very exciting attack that can create and score goals on a regular basis, but that back-line and stopper area of the pitch looks very dodgy and cost Chelsea alot of points in the Premier League.
Their defensive issues were the main reason why they failed to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, and then got knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, and now that the transfer window is opened up, Lampard has admitted that he is keen to improve the defensive side of the squad.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is a player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Bridge, especially as he is eager to make that step up in the game and avoid another relegation battle next season with the Hammers.
Now, amid the reports on Sky Sports that Chelsea have submitted their opening offer fro Rice, Groves has backed Chelsea to complete a possible deal for the Englishman, He told talkSPORT: “I think he does suit Chelsea because we said before, they look weak through the centre of their midfield area.
“It gives them that little bit of physical strength and he’s got better on the ball.
“He would be a player who would protect the two centre-halves. So that makes sense.
“The price is going to be more because obviously he’s English so that always puts the price up by another £10million, doesn’t it?”
There is alot of speculation and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea pull this one off, as it seems that the players that Lampard wants, the board are prepared to back him and look to get deals done.
But the Blues will need to get Rice for the right money, and not get ripped off.
