Chelsea announcement made – talented defender has completed early summer move

English League Two side Barrow have announced the loan signing of Northern Ireland defender Sam McClelland from Chelsea – it has been revealed
McClelland was in Ian Baraclough’s senior squad for the games against Malta and Ukraine, making his debut against the Ukrainians in 2021.
He joined Chelsea back in 2108 and quickly signed his first big contract with the Blues later that year after he impressed the Blues coaching staff with some of his impressive performances
This is McClelland’s first loan, and it comes soon after Chelsea had activated a one-year extension clause in his contract, which had been due to expire at the end of the month.
Chelsea announced on the club website: ‘Sam McClelland will play at Barrow this coming season, the first loan move of his Chelsea career.’
Barrow boss Pete Wild said on the new addition “Sam comes highly recommended from both club and country and is at the right stage of his career to experience men’s football.
” We are excited to have him as part of the group and help continue his development as a footballer.”

The lad is clearly very talented and needs a chance to break into a first team to prove that he can make it as a professional footballer – this is a great move for the lad
It will give him a chance in the game – and should he impress – he may get a chance at Chelsea – he may get offers from other clubs or Barrow may indeed decide to keep him on a more permanent basis
Chelsea will watch his performances very closely – and as we said – this is a massive opportunity for the lad that he shouldnt waste
