£40M Spanish claim made after Chelsea complete shock seven-year deal
talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent believes CHELSEA have signed the wrong goalkeeper in the form of Robert Sanchez
After letting Edouard Mendy go earlier in the transfer window and with all the inconsistency that Kepa brings to the side – Mauricio Pochettino was keen to add another stopper to the squad.
And after Brighton decided that they no longer wanted Sanchez at the club – Chelsea made the big decision to make a move for the stopper and bring him to the club on a seven-year deal.
However, Bent believes that the club may have signed the wrong goalkeeper, questioning why Chelsea didn’t get David Raya to be their new No.1.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –
“Bringing in Robert Sanchez, who doesn’t even start for Brighton… I find it quite strange,” Bent said when the deal was agreed.
“David Raya is being linked to Arsenal as their No.2… David Raya is better than Kepa Arrizabalaga. So why would Chelsea not go for him?
“And why would David Raya not think, ‘Hold on, why am I going to Arsenal to play behind Aaron Ramsdale? Why don’t I go to Chelsea and be their No.1?’
“There’s something not quite right with Arsenal’s deal for Raya. If I was Chelsea, I would be trying to get him.”
SHOULD CHELSEA HAVE SIGNED RAYA?
Raya is one of the best stoppers in the Premier League and a man that is tipped for a big move – but he reportedly has his heart set on signing for Arsenal – and that is why the Blues have probably signed Sanchez.
Sanchez is still a very good stopper – but Raya would have been the better signing for CHELSEA – but at the end of the day – the deal has been done now, so it doesnt matter about Raya
