Alonso replacement found as Chelsea interest in signing £70 million rated Premier League star Chilwell
Despite the Premier League season now under way and the transfer window now shut, there has been some reports in the media which have claimed Chelsea are eyeing up Leicester defender Ben Chilwell.
Now we all know that Chelsea were unable to go out and splash the cash on some big named players as they were banned from acquiring any players for at least two transfer windows, and although they did appeal the ban, they only managed to tie down a permanent deal for Mateo Kovacic and bring in Christian Pulisic.
That has meant that Frank Lampard has to put a lot of faith in the players that he has already at the club, and will have to wait until the next transfer window before he is able to go out and acquire some much needed quality.
And reports suggesting that he will be handed around £200 million to spend on new players, the Sun have reported that he has put the impressive Chilwell on his shopping list ahead of next summer, and will monitor the left-backs performances over the course of the season.
Chelsea already have Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso in the squad, but there has been a lot of transfer speculation that he would be open to a move to the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid, with speculation during this summer that he was actually open to a move away.
And Chilwell, who is regarded as one of the best young left-backs in the Premier League, is seen as his long-term replacement, but he will not come cheap and the reports suggest that Chelsea will have to pay close to £70 million to secure a transfer deal next summer.
Now, Lampard has a big job on his hands getting this Chelsea side performing and winning the way that owner Roman Abramovic wants, so he will need time and patience to build the side that he believes can take the club back to the very top of the game.
But if Alonso does leave and Chilwell impresses like many expect him too over the next few months, then he could be a great long-term investment from Chelsea if they do actually make a transfer move.
