Defender opens up and announces his long-term future is with Chelsea
Andreas Christensen believes his long-term future will lie at Chelsea, with the Danish defender having earned the “trust” of Frank Lampard.
There has been alot of speculation about the possible signings that Frank Lampard will continue to make during the summer transfer window, with reports that a new central defender and left-back may be required by the boss.
That would mean that the likes of Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Antonio Rudiger would all have to fight for a spot in the Chelsea side, and with defenders usually playing 90 per cent of the games, a new central defender could hinder their development under Lampard
However, Christensen has been an invaluable member of the Chelsea side under Lampard this season and has been a big reason why Chelsea are still in the hunt for a Champions League place.
Now, he has opened up and announced that he believes his long-term future will lie at Chelsea, as he is feeling happy and settled once again.
“At least that’s what I think [that Lampard is betting on him for the future],” Christensen told BT.
“I can only try to show that I deserve that trust, and I try to show that in every single match.
“When you [are on the bench], of course, you are not happy, but when the others play well, I can do nothing but train.
“I’ve been getting a lot of games again [and] then you feel that you are believed in and that they trust you.”
There is no doubt that Christensen is a very good young defender, but he lacks a leader next to him at the back and Chelsea will seriously need to consider their option in the transfer window if they really want to close that gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.
But it is great news that the lad seemingly would like to stay at Stamford Bridge..
