Contract issues means Chelsea are interested in signing £50 million Alaba from Bayern
Chelsea are among a number of leading clubs who are monitoring whether David Alaba signs a new contract at Bayern Munich,
Frank Lampard knows that he needs to improve the side if he wants to get back inside the top four and then push on to challenge for a Premier League title and Champions League crown.
And one area of concern for the Blues is the defence, as it is not good enough to challenge the big boys in Europe, so Lampard is reportedly keen to sort that issues out with the possible signing of Alaba, who is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the game right now.
Alaba has 12 months left on his current deal with the German giants, but there has been a few issues with his contract talks and speculation has risen over the past few months that he is seeking a way out of the club after ten years of service with Bayern.
And according to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are keeping a very close eye on the developments over at Bayern as they seek for a possible cheaper alternative for Ben Chilwell, who is the clubs number one transfer target.
New Bayern star Leroy Sane recently opened up and urged the left-back to stay in the Bundesliga this summer.
Sane told BILD: “I really hope David stays! I would like to play with him.
“He is a good guy, a great footballer, and we like each other privately.
“David has proven that he is not only one of the world’s best left-backs, but also exceptional in the centre.”
Losing Alaba will be a massive blow for Bayern as he is one of the very best in the game, but the window opens up soon and with no new contract on the horizon, there is a real chance for Chelsea or City to land a bargain for themselves this summer.
