Mauro stripped! Chelsea close in on £90 million signing of Inter star Icardi after announcement made
Mauro Icardi has been stripped of the Inter Milan captaincy, amid links to Chelsea in the summer, according to reports on Sky Sports news
It is no secret that the Argentine is struggling to agree terms on a new contract at Milan, with many believing that Milan are willing to sell if the £90 million valuation is met at the end of the season.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri will wait and see just how Gonzalo Higuain gets on before making anymore transfer decisions, as he firmly believes the on-loan Juventus star will score goals on a regular basis.
However, a more long-term striker is needed in the summer window as the Argentine can only be a few seasons away from playing at the very highest level, and they will be boosted by the reports that Icardi is getting even closer to a summer move
The 25-year-old has been left out of the club’s squad for the first leg of their last-32 Europa League tie with Rapid Vienna, after talks broke down over a new deal for the Argentine striker, and inter confirmed the news that he has been stripped of his captaincy in a tweet, which also revealed goalkeeper Samir Handanovic will replace him.
Inter Tweeted: “The Club can confirm that Samir #Handanovic is the new Inter captain.#FCIM”
Would Icardi be a good signing for Chelsea?
The Argentine is coming into the prime of his life and scoring goals for fun, so if Chelsea did manage to secure a transfer deal, then it would certainly boost their chances of winning the Premier League title once again.
Sarri has a world class squad that could lose come of its biggest players at the end of the season, so making early moves and securing potential deals like one for Icardi would limit the damage if Eden Hazard, Willian and N’Golo Kkante leave the club.
