Chelsea confirmed transfer deal for Italian, Brand new Chelsea signing excited after move, Blues wrap up late defender deal

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed from deadline day…

CHELSEA have announced that midfielder Cesare Casedai has now left the club and signed for Seria A side Torino.

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a 4.5-year contract with the Serie A side, who are in turn paying €15m to Chelsea for the transfer. That’s the total “package” price, matching the initial fee the Blues paid to Inter Milan in 2022.

CHELSEA do have a 25 per cent sell-on, which makes this deal a bit more attractive financially, the Blues posted: ‘Signed from Inter Milan in August 2022, Casadei initially featured for our Under-21s side before spending the second half of the campaign in the Championship with Reading.

‘He was then included in the Italy squad for the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and claimed both the Golden Ball and the Golden Boot as his country finished as runners-up to Uruguay.

‘A loan move to Leicester City followed, where Casadei gained further senior experience, before he returned to Chelsea in January 2024.

We would like to thank Cesare for his efforts throughout his time with the club and wish him well as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.’

With all the quality that Enzo Maresca has at CHELSEA already, it is easy to see why Casedai cannot get the game time. But this move is a very good idea for the lad to make as he will get the game time that he needs.

Some Chelsea fans will be disappointed with the news that the lad has left, but as we just said, it is probably the best thing for Casedai as he will not have the chance to forge a good career in football for himself over in Italy.

WALSH EXCITED AFTER MOVE

Brand new CHELSEA signing Keira Walsh has opened up and revealed just how excited she is with the move to Stamford Bridge after deciding to leave Barcelona.

Walsh signed for the Spanish giants in 2022 for what was then a world-record fee, having just played a major part in the Lionesses’s European Championship triumph on home soil.

The midfielder has since won back-to-back Champions League and Spanish league titles but is due to be out of contract in the summer. It was initially reported that the fee would be as high as £800,000, but Standard Sport understands it is only around half that.

The deal is Chelsea’s second major transfer of the January window, following last week’s signing of Naomi Girma for a world-record fee, and Walsh has opened up and revealed her excitement at making the move to the WSL Champions.

‘It’s no secret that I wanted to come and wanted to play closer to my friends and family. Just having my family back in the stands, it’s something I’ve just wanted for a long time.

‘When I spoke to CHELSEA, I knew that I wanted to come here.’

‘They are delighted,’ Walsh said. ‘I kept it quiet for a little bit because I know that my mum gets quite stressed, so tried not to tell her too many details.

‘I’m sure my dad’s looking forward to watching me play every week. He’s really missed that. I’m just really looking forward to having them much closer.’

‘There are always a lot of areas to improve,’ Walsh added. ‘Speaking to Sonia, she wants me to score more goals.

‘You look at the condition of this Chelsea team and they’re all so strong and physically tough. They’re incredible at getting around the pitch and that’s something I want to add to my game.

‘The speed of the WSL as well is something I can learn from. The players play at such an incredible speed which will help me improve on the ball. I’ll have to play and think faster.’

LATE CALEB WILEY DEAL DONE

CHELSEA defender Caleb Wiley has been recalled from his loan at Strasbourg and will spend the remainder of the campaign at Championship club Watford, the Blues have confirmed on deadline day.

The Blues posted on the club website: ‘The USA international joined the Blues in the summer from Atlanta United and, after representing his country at the 2024 Olympics, linked up with Strasbourg to continue his development. Caleb made six appearances for the Ligue 1 side and will now test himself in England’s second tier.

We look forward to supporting Caleb throughout his time at Watford.

Good luck, Caleb!

Watford posted on the club website: ‘ Watford FC have signed left-back Caleb Wiley on loan for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old joins from Chelsea after spending the first half of the 2024/25 campaign with French top-flight side RC Strasbourg.

‘A full United States international, Wiley moved to England last summer from MLS side Atlanta United, the club he first joined as an 11-year-old.

‘After progressing through the Academy, he made his professional debut with Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship, featuring throughout the 2020 and 2021 campaigns.

‘The defender then made the step up to the first-team in 2022, marking his debut with a goal in a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in February

‘This would prove to be the first of 25 appearances that season, before he truly established himself in 2023 by playing a further 36 matches as well as making his United States debut against Mexico.

‘Another 21 appearances for Atlanta were added to his tally in 2024 before his move to Stamford Bridge, where he signed a six-year contract before moving to Ligue 1 to further his development in Europe.

‘Utilised both on the wing and in defence by Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg, Wiley made six appearances.

‘Last year also saw Wiley play twice more for the United States, as well as making three appearances for Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

‘Welcome to Watford, Caleb!’
