Sorry Arsenal as Chelsea line-up Azpelicueta replacement with agents already being contacted
Chelsea could make a move for PSG star Thomas Meunier in January if their transfer ban gets lifted.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one man that could be signed by Chelsea is that of Meunier.
Arsenal were looking at a number of possible transfer targets during the summer transfer window to come in and help improve the back-line, and the bargain priced Meunier was on the shopping list of the Premier League giants.
It was believed that he was fed up at PSG and was seeking a move away from the French giants in order to get some more game time, but in the end he decided to stay in Paris and the Gunners ultimately turned their transfer attentions elsewhere.
But the Gunners interest in now wavered in the chase for Meunier as they eye up alternatives, leaving the likes of Chelsea with a clear run at the right-back.
Cesare Azpelicueta does not look like the same, solid performer that has held that Chelsea spot for many seasons and Lampard may be keen to add some experience to that position, as Reece James is not quite ready to be the clubs long-term right-back.
And the fact that Meunier would not cost much more than £25 million means that Lampard would still have ample funds to keep on improving the squad.
If Chelsea do get this transfer ban shortened, it could be a very busy transfer window for Chelsea, as they do need to add some top-class players to the side in the coming windows.
