Former Blues star welcomes possible arrival of Barcelona star Coutinho to Chelsea this summer

Chelsea could sign Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho in the summer transfer window if they get their transfer ban overturned, says former Blue Craig Burley.

Coutinho is regarded as one of the finest creators in Europe and was supposed to be the long-term successor to Andreas Iniesta at the Camp Nou, but he has failed to make the kind of impact this season that made him a Liverpool superstar in the Premier league.

And that has led to a lot of speculation that the £142 million rated midfielder could be sold at the end of the season, with some reports even suggesting that Barcelona are willing to cash in if the likes of Chelsea meet the £65 million valuation, a significant drop in the price of the Brazilian star.

And Burley can see Coutinho coming back to England at the end of the season and signing for Chelsea, but only if the Blues manage to get their transfer ban overturned.

“It’s not easy and it has been difficult for him,” Burley told ESPN FC. “I’ll say it’s possible [for Coutinho to return to England].

“Maybe Chelsea can sign players, potentially if they get this overruled, but it does look unlikely.”

Would Coutinho be a good signing for Chelsea?

Despite his troubles at Barcelona, Coutinho is a world class midfielder that has already proven that he has the ability to make it in the Premier League and if Chelsea did manage to get their transfer ban overturned in the summer, he could be the perfect replacement for star man Eden Hazard.

He not only creates goals but he scores them and for just £65 million he could be an absolute bargain, especially as it would have cost Chelsea £140 million to get a deal done before he left for Barcelona just a few seasons ago.
