Prem move on? £142 million Chelsea target Coutinho ‘has asked to leave’ Barcelona this summer
Long-term Chelsea target Philippe Coutinho has asked Barcelona to leave this summer, according to Cadena SER.
The Brazilian has struggled to live up to his enormous price tag in a disappointing season for the Catalan club, who will try to cash in on their £142m signing to fund a big summer overhaul.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move as they prepare for life after Eden Hazard, while Manchester United have also been mooted as a potential destination, with the Belgian superstar all set to complete a £115 million deal to Real Madrid.
And after reports emerged which claimed that Barcelona were open to the idea of letting Coutinho leave, Cadena Ser have claimed that he has now asked to leave the club as he wants to reignite his career.
The report goes on to say Coutinho has been identified by Chelsea chiefs as the perfect replacement for Hazard, and the 26-year-old has previously proven himself in the Premier League during his stint with Liverpool.
European Football expert Julian Laurens handed Chelsea a boost in their chase after claiming that Coutinho is heading to the Premier League, because Paris Saint-Germain would not be able to afford the Brazilian.
“How? With what money?” he said on ESPN FC.
“There’s no room anywhere in the wage bill for Coutinho, as a transfer fee for Coutinho.
“It’s not even a position that is there priority.
“So for me it’s, and from what I’ve heard from the club, there’s nothing in that story at all.”
Hazard is a superstar and is one of the biggest players on the planet right now, so losing him this summer for Chelsea will be a massive loss to the club and their immediate success, but he can be replaced.
Coutinho is a creative force and a man that needs to come back to the Premier League, as it is perfect for his style of play. So if Chelsea are ready to offer him the kind of wages that he wants, then he should consider a move to the Blues as he would face a backlash from Liverpool if he signed for United and signing for PSG would be a massive step down.
For the right amount of money, he would be a fantastic addition to the Premier League once again.
