Chelsea told £70 million rated target De Ligt is ready to big move
Chelsea have been told Matthijs de Ligt is ready to move to one of Europe’s elite clubs, according to journalist Henry Winter.
Regarded as one of the finest talents over the past decade, De Ligt has been linked with some of the games biggest and best clubs over the past few months after a stunning season with Ajax.
The Dutchman helped Ajax reach the Champions League semi-finals, only to lose to Tottenham, while also helping the giants to their first Dutch title in five seasons.
But with all the speculation surrounding his future, Ajax have accepted the idea that he will leave the club over the next few weeks, and will demand close to £70 million.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for De Ligt, despite their transfer ban, as Current boss Maurizio Sarri knows he needs to improve the back-line in order to challenge for the premier League title.
And De Ligt is seen as the idea man to sit alongside Antonio Rudiger in the long-run, with the Dutchman already a world class leader.
Now Henry has told the likes of Chelsea that De Ligt is ready to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe, despite only being 19-years of age.
In terms of leadership and potential, The Times’ journalists compares him to when Tony Adams came through the ranks at Arsenal.
“He’ll leave – there are so many places he could go to but Barcelona is the obvious destination,” Winter added.
“He reminds me in terms of a leader as when Tony Adams came through at Arsenal. He was captain at a young age. Everyone at the club back then could see he’s natural leader and a winner. De Ligt is the same.”
There is no doubting that De Ligt will improve any side that he chooses to join over the next few months, and the fact that Chelsea are one of the richest clubs in the game, they could easily meet the £70 million price tag and massive £350,000-a-week wages.
They are in need of a top-class defender much like John Terry and if their transfer ban gets overturned, De Ligt would be the perfect signing.
