Contact being made ahead of January deal as Chelsea interested in Portuguese International Dias
Chelsea could make a move for Benfica star Ruben Dias in January if their transfer ban gets lifted.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one man that could be signed by Chelsea is that of Dias.
Dias has played every minute of Benfica’s league games so far this season, and has established himself as a first-choice defender for Portugal, and with Chelsea seeking a new defender to replace the departed David Luiz, Chelsea scouts have already been out to Portugal to watch Benfica versus Porto earlier this season to check out the young man.
He has show great ability on the ball, is relatively comfortable dealing with even the biggest strikers and has plenty of time to develop into a top-class defender in the coming seasons, and considering Chelsea are putting an a lot of thought into developing younger players, he could be a good signing at the £40 million he is valued at.
Despite his decent start to the new season, Frank Lampard knows that this current side is still not good enough to challenge for more than a top four spot and he will need to spend the money to improve a number of areas of the pitch to get the Blues back to the very top of the game.
If Chelsea do get this transfer ban shortened, it could be a very busy transfer window for Chelsea, as they do need to add some top-class players to the side in the coming windows.
So it will be interesting to see just whom arrives in the coming windows.
