Chelsea ‘working on deal’ to sign Portuguese star for Pochettino in £64.5M deal
CHELSEA are said to be ready to beat Manchester United to the signing of Diogo Costa and have been working on a deal for the stopper.
United have been eyeing up the Porto goalkeeper as their long-term replacement for David de Gea, whose Old Trafford future remains subject to considerable doubt with many rumours suggesting the club are ready to cash in.
However, the likes of Andre Onana, David Raya and Bart Verbruggen are also said to be under consideration by United, leaving Chelsea the chance to pounce for Costa.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Chelsea have been working on a deal for the Portuguese ‘keeper and are willing to pay his £64.5m release clause in instalments.
The Blues are also eager to find a new No1 for Mauricio Pochettino this summer with Edouard Mendy set to leave for Saudi Arabia and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future also uncertain

Although adding a new stopper to the side is on the agenda of Pochettino – there are other areas of the pitch that need to be improved before a new goalkeeper arrives.
Costa is a very good stopper and could be a brilliant signing – but a new defender – right-back – midfielder and definitely a striker need to be signed very soon.
There are many more weeks left of the window – it will be interesting to see just who CHELSEA manage to sign and who else departs
But Costa could be a man that arrives at the club and makes an immediate impact – he is better than Kepa and Mendy – we are just not sure that pochettino is desperate to replace the duo until one of them leaves.
