Powerhouse defender ‘will be very good’ signing for Chelsea as Premier League reports emerge

Chelsea are very interested in a potential transfer swoop for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande, sources have claimed as the defender considers making a move to the Premier League with all the interest he has been attracting

There is still a lot of speculation surrounding the players that Enzo Maresca will look to sign during the next couple of transfer windows, especially as the club still need to improve that back-line when they have the chance too.

That has led to some rumours in the media which have claimed that CHELSEA FC tried to get a transfer deal done for Diomande in the last few days of the last January window, but a €35million (£30m) bid rejected.

Diomande, who has a bit release clause, quickly became a regular in the Sporting defence following his arrival at the start of the year, making his European debut against the Gunners in the Europa League.

WHAT IS THE LATEST – 

Per Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, 20-year-old defender Ousmane Diomande could consider leaving Sporting CP next summer amid interest from the Premier League.

The player’s current deal runs until 2027, however, the contract does not have a release clause. The Portuguese giants are likely to demand a fee in the region of €50-60m.

Reporter Iomie Stanley told icfootballnews: ‘Diomande has been very impressive this season and it would be interesting to see if he could handle the pressure of playing for one of the big clubs in the Premier League.

‘And the fact that he would add depth to the squad for not a lot of money, it could be a great buy from that CHELSEA board and could be a player that adds some more quality to that Blues squad.

‘Many Chelsea fans would like to see a striker make the move to the club in the coming window – but Diomande would still be a good signing at the end of the season’
