Director issues transfer statement with Chelsea ready to seal £68M January deal

Napoli director Mauro Meluso has been speaking about Victor Osimhen’s situation after his failed Chelsea transfer on transfer deadline day

Osimhen was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the course of the summer window, as CHELSEA were desperate to add a striker to their attack before the season started, many reports in the media suggested.

But despite all the rumours, despite all the speculation that he could be heading to Chelsea – Osimhen never made that move to London as his asking price was far too high and in the end, he ended up making a loan move to Galatasaray.

Now – Napoli director Meluso has opened up on the Osimhen situation, claiming it was the striker’s decision to pull away from the first team despite claims the club axed him following the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. “He no longer wanted to be part of the first-team,” Napoli director Meluso said during the Palermo Football Conference.

“He had received an important offer even before I arrived at Napoli, but [Napoli chairman] Aurelio De Laurentiis didn’t consider it because he thought about the club’s good. He may have made wrong decisions but did them to keep Napoli competitive.”

There is no doubt about it – Osimhen is one of the best strikers in Europe and a man that Chelsea fans wanted to see arrive – so many were shocked when that switch to Galatasaray happened.

Osimhen moved because he wanted game time and that is what he is getting – Napoli would probably have loved to keep the player – but at the end of the day – he just wanted minutes.

And when the January transfer window opens up – there may be an opportunity for CHELSEA to make a fresh move for the man.
