Chelsea interested in wrapping up deal for £60 million meastro as Spurs sent transfer message
Tottenham should make sure Chelsea target Christian Eriksen stays at the club after his influential performance in win over Aston Villa on Saturday, says Jamie Redknapp.
With just one year remaining on his contract, Spurs have been prepared to sell Eriksen this summer and there had been talks with a number of clubs about a possible exit from White Hart Lane.
Chelsea may not have been able to sign any players during the transfer window, but that has not stopped speculation in the media linking them with a big money move for the midfielder, with reports suggesting they may make an offer during the January window if he stays put this summer.
But despite the reports suggesting that he wants out, he put in a decent display against Aston Villa to help Spurs pick up a 3-1 victory, Redknapp ha urged Tottenham to strike a deal and keep hold of the influential midfielder.
“Personally, until Eriksen came onto the field, I didn’t see Spurs winning that game,” Redknapp said on the Daily Express website.
“I really hope Christian Eriksen doesn’t leave the Premier League and doesn’t leave Tottenham. When he plays, it’s like the game stands still.
“He’s the difference in that team, Eriksen, and they need to find a way to keep him.
“If he wants a bit more money than most players, that’s what great players deserve.”
There is much criticism about the midfielder as he only plays an important role in Spurs midfield when they are playing sides that are lower down the Premier League, or when Tottenham are already winning.
But there is no doubt that he creates a number of goals for Eriksen and Spurs will need an adequate replacement before they can actually sell the midfielder.
So they will surely sit down and hold talks with Eriksen during the season if he does not leave this summer, but it will be interesting to see just what happens with the little maestro.
