Chelsea ‘have expressed an interest’ in signing world cup winning defender Boateng ahead of summer window
Reports have claimed Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng this summer.
There is no doubt that Chelsea will be looking to add an experienced defender to the side during the summer transfer window and have already been linked witha whole host of names.
Frank Lampard are well-stocked on the right with Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James so it is much more likely that Lamps brings in a new central defender, or even a next left-back, as that is an area of concern for the Chelsea boss.
Frank Lampard is still yet to settle on his preferred partner for Antonio Rudiger, with Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori all rotating alongside the German this season, And now Fussball Transfers have confirmed that both Chelsea have expressed interest in the centre-back ahead of the summer window, while Hertha Berlin are also keen.
Boateng is seemingly done at the German Champions and is all set to leave the club at the end of the season, unless BAYERN suddenly decide that they want to keep Boateng in the side for another season.
Speaking about Boateng on Friday, Flick said: “He still has a year contract, it’s his decision.
“Jerome was a German international and has now shown once again that he can show performance at this high level.
“He is physically fitter and has created the conditions that he currently has a regular place here. I like to work with him and he is currently doing a very good job.”
Look, Bayern are seeking to add another defender to the side, meaning that Boateng will be pushed down the pecking order, meaning that he will not want to spend the last few good years left in the game sitting on the bench.
If Chelsea are seeking a short-term solution to their long-term problems, then yes, Boateng could be a decent signing. But it would be more profitable for the club to make a move for a fresher and hungrier player that is in his prime.
