‘One of the best in Europe’ heading to Stamford Bridge – Chelsea pole position to complete deal

There has been some fresh claims suggesting that Chelsea are now interested in signing Villareal star Pau Torres

The west Londoners invested heavily in their defence in the summer, signing Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly for around £170m, but the spending in that position looks set to continue.

Graham Potter has one of the best squads in the Premier League – but he has been having some serious issues in that back-line this season and knows that he needs to add a more long-term replacement for the ageing Thiago Silva

90min has reported that Chelsea could be targeting Villareal’s center-back Pau Torres in the upcoming transfer windows.

The Spanish defender has been exceptional in defense for the Yellow Submarine and could be an ideal player for Graham Potter – and although Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs are also chasing Torres, Chelsea is in a pole position to sign the young defender.

Torres’ contract with Villareal ends in 2024 and he could be destined to move to England for a fee in the region of £44m.

He has recently been hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player with a ‘fabulous’ left foot, and has emerged as one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in Europe – according to Owen Hargreaves.

Chelsea have been linked with so many players over the past few weeks that many are hoping some of these big names actually make the move to the club in the coming windows.

Pau Torres really is a classy defender and if Chelsea get him for a fee close to that £44 million – they would be getting a real bargain as he is already worth more than that.

He is certainly the type of player that Potter needs to be signing.
