Would fans welcome Premier League star to Chelsea? after Lamps told “astronomical figure” would get deal done
The Likes of Chelsea would need to stump up an “astronomical figure” to land Kalvin Phillips, according to former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, but would he be welcome at the club?
Philipps is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Premier League after impressing in the opening weeks of the new season, with his performances even earning him an England call-up by boss Gareth Southgate.
And that has led to some speculation in the media that the likes of Chelsea, along with Manchester United and Tottenham, may be tempted to make a move for the midfielder in the winter transfer window, which is just a few months away.
Whelan, however, believes that his fellow Yorkshireman is exactly where he needs to be and that is would take a massive figure for Leeds to even consider selling one of the clubs most important players
“Look, Leeds do not need to sell him,” Whelan told Football Insider. “That is the way it is. We are not a selling club anymore.
“We are in the Premier League and if we are going to be successful and hit the heights that we hope to, it is imperative that we keep Kalvin Phillips.
“Speculation will happen and I know money talks but Kalvin is a Leeds lad who pledged his future to the club by signing a new contract.
“To get him away from Leeds right now would take an astronomical figure. Otherwise Leeds would not even contemplate the idea of selling him next summer.”
“He looks like he is enjoying his football at Leeds and he is now getting the recognition that he deserves from England as well. Gareth Southgate was there again on Monday night watching him. Kalvin is at the club which is best for him.”
Look, if Chelsea have just signed a whole bunch of players that will bring quality to the squad, so even though it is easy to see just why Phillips is attracting all sorts of interest from all the big clubs, this is surely a transfer rumours that will not happen for the Blues?
