William Gallas claims CHELSEA record signing Enzo Fernandez is not ‘top level yet’

The 22-year-old, who cost £107m, only spent six months in Portugal but attracted the attention of several clubs during Argentina’s triumphant World Cup campaign in Qatar.

His move to Stamford Bridge has not worked out like he had hoped thoigh – and he has not made the impact that American owner Ted Boehly would have liked.

Now former Chelsea defender Gallas also believes Fernandez has some way to go before he is at the ‘top, top level’.

Asked who incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino should look to build his Chelsea team around next season, Gallas told Genting Casino: ‘That is a good question. I am not sure.

‘We know that Thiago Silva will be there for one more season. N’Golo Kante hasn’t signed a new contract yet, so it looks like he wont stay.

‘I can’t answer that question. There are so many doubts about Chelsea at the moment. For example, who is going to be the striker next season?

‘I don’t think Romelu Lukaku will come back. Chelsea need to sign a new striker. They need another experienced centre back. They need to add a midfielder with experience, a world-class player.

‘Yes, they have Enzo Fernandez, but he is not at the top, top level yet, despite winning a World Cup. So I don’t know which players the next manger will be looking to build around.’

The money was crazy – he has not been worth it – it could end up being a huge mistake from CHELSEA
