Jorge Mendes makes transfer approach with Chelsea looking to sign £88M man

CHELSEA have suffered a major setback in their pursuit of AC Milan forward Rafael Leao after his agent Jorge Mendes approached Real Madrid regarding a potential summer transfer move,

Leao has been one of AC Milan’s most important players over the past four seasons, registering 36 goals and 31 assists across 147 games for the club.

Leao’s current deal is up in the summer of 2024 and while talks are ongoing, a host of Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation in hope that he could become available.

Chelsea have been heavily linked for the last couple of transfer windows and many did expect them to sign Leao in the January window – but other targets were signed and they moved on from the man. But they will be back for the man at the end of the season.

However – despite admitting that he would one day like to play in the Premier League – his agent has cast doubt on whether or not a move to Stamford Bridge could happen after he approached Madrid – according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Speaking about Chelsea’s attempt to sign Leao last summer, AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini said: ‘Rafa knows that to become stronger than now the solution is to stay with us.

‘Chelsea’s officially written offer did not arrive but on an informal level it did. Of course, it was rejected.’

There is something there in the potential of Leao – he really is a special talent and could be a great long-term investment – but not for that £100 million that is being talked about.

If CHELSEA pay that, they are crazy and should pay a more realistic price.

However – Chelsea already have a number of wingers at the club and adding another is not really what they need – so maybe it is a good thing that he does make a move to Madrid?
