Chelsea star Giroud opens up and slams Maurizio Sarri for signing striker Higuain

Olivier Giroud has claimed Maurizio Sarri for signing on-loan Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain in January.

With Chelsea seriously lacking in fire-power at the beginning of the season, Sarri made the decision to approach Juventus about trying to nail down Higuain on a short term basis, despite the fact he was on-loan at AC Milan.

However, despite being given a number of chances by the Chelsea boss, Higuain failed to adapt to the quality and pace of the Premier League and ultimately failed to impress large sections of the Chelsea fans.

His arrival meant the France international was reduced to a bit-part role in the Premier League last season and found chances to impress increasingly difficult to come by once Sarri convinced Chelsea to recruit Higuain.

But his lack of game time did not stop the Frenchman from impressing in the Europa league and Giroud finished as the competition’s top scorer after he played a key role in Chelsea Europa League success.

And Giroud has admitted e become frustrated at Sarri’s inability to hand him more game time.

‘When I didn’t understand his choices, I went to see him, he gave me explanations,’ Giroud told RMC.

‘What was annoying was he preferred to recruit Higuain. My playing time did not improve and it was not easy.’

Giroud may not be the most mobile or exciting strikers to watch in the game, but he brings something more substantial to the Chelsea attack than what Higuain managed.

He is the target man that Eden Hazard, Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian all like to feed off, and although he barely breaks the 10-goals a season mark, he adds some more to the attack.

Buying Higuain was a mistake as he did not excel at Chelsea, so many fans will not be upset to see the back of the Argentine.
