Klopp statement opens door for Chelsea to try and complete £292M packaged deal
Jurgen Klopp has said there is absolutely no chance that Liverpool will try to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, which will hand Chelsea a massive transfer boost
After just over two successful years at Borussia Dortmund, the 21-year-old has developed into one of the most deadly strikers in the and and believes now is the time to make the extra step up and compete for some of Europe’s major prizes.
His £68 million release clause has attracted the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool and numerous other clubs over the past few months as he looks set to be the most in-demand player in the coming window.
But after reports in the media suggesting that Real Madrid are more keen on signing Kylian Mbappe, And Barcelona financially uncappable of handing Haaland the contract he desires, The Premier League giants have all been linked.
But it now looks like Chelsea may only have to battle Man City after Klopp made it clear that the cost of buying the free-scoring striker, which could eventually total in the region of €350 million (£292m/$381m) is out of the Reds’ price range.
Haaland himself wants around €25m (£21m/$28m) per year after tax – which equates to around €50m (£42m/$55m) gross, and should he sign a five-year deal with a new club, it would cost them €250m (£209m/$275m) on wages alone
“We won’t be going there,” the former Dortmund boss told SportBild. “The numbers involved are just crazy – we’ll be having nothing to do with it. No chance!
“To be honest, I don’t want anything to do with it. It’s not fun.”
There are not too many areas of the pitch that Chelsea need to improve on – but adding a striker like Haaland would be enough in the summer
They have some world class defenders, and Midfielders but adding a striker is top priority and right now, there are not too many better than Haaland
