£57M man Morata admits delight!l! Chelsea open up and announce January deal is signed and sealed
Chelsea have confirmed Alvaro Morata has joined Athletic Madrid on an 18-month loan deal.
Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid on a five-year contract for a then-club-record £57m fee in July 2017, while Antonio Conte was in charge but he has failed to make the kind of impact that many had hoped for, failing to find the net on a regular basis.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has been keen to offload the Spanish star all January window, and even admitted that the striker asked to leave the club last month after losing his starting place to Eden Hazard up top.
And a few days after seeing the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain to the cub, Chelsea have officially announced that Morata has joined Madrid on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The 26-year-old said he was delighted with the move.
“I’m very happy and proud to be here. I can’t wait to start training, meet my new teammates and play,” Morata said.
This will be the second time Morata has played for the Spanish giants having played for the club as a youngster.
Is the move to Madrid the right one?
With Gonzalo Higuain now at Chelsea and obviously going to be the main man under Sarri, it is a good move by Morata to pack his bags and head back to La Liga, as the Spanish Leagues will suit his style more than the Premier League.
He should be the future at Chelsea, but he simply couldnt adapt and it was the right decision to pack his bags and head back to Madrid, even if the switch does not work out in the coming months.
And maybe he will then be ready to come back and challenge Higuain for thr eegular spot at the club, as Morata is a very good young striker.
