Big decision as Chelsea ordered to sign £89 million midfielder Havertz rather than deal for Coutinho, despite opening talks
Frank Leboeuf believes Chelsea should target Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz instead of Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho in the next transfer window.
Coutinho has been in the Headlines alot over the past few weeks, as indications suggest that Barcelona are keen to offload the Brazilian when the transfer window officially opens in a few weeks time.
There have been reports in the media that Chelsea have opened talks with the players agent about a possible deal, but nothing has been sorted out yet and no deal is even close to being completed.
However, another player that has been linked with a move to Chelsea over the past few months is that of Havertz, who is one of the best talents in the game, and who could be available in the summer for a fee of around £89 million.
But Leboeuf has urged Chelsea to make a move for Havertz in the summer rather than a move for the more experienced Coutinho, who could cost over £100 million to acquire in the summer window.
He was asked about Havertz, and he told ESPN FC: ‘Yes. I like his maturity on the field, he looks like someone who is 30 and knows exactly what he has to do and when he has to do it.
‘The goal he scored was very clever, between the goalkeeper’s legs.
‘He’s the master orchestrator of that team and I talked about him last week and I said that’s a player that I would hire for sure.
‘When we were talking Chelsea about Coutinho, when you see that player [Havertz], he should be in the Premier League very soon.
‘He should be because he’s a very, very talented player.’
It is a big decision to make as both players are great stars of the game and would add something to the side. But if Chelsea did want to send a statement to the rest of the Premier League then they would sign both players.
They have the finances to pull off a transfer deal and it would send a massive statement of intent.
