Chelsea respond and release statement amid ongoing Kai Havertz transfer talks
Chelsea ‘vigorously deny’ claims director Marina Granovskaia has attempted to compile a dossier of potential weaknesses in Bayer Leverkusen’s hierarchy to in a bid to gain the upper hand for Kai Havertz.
Chelsea have already recruited RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner for £54million and Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech for £34m as manager Frank Lampard aims to rebuild the Blues’ squad.
But the speculation has now turned to the possible arrival of Kai Havertz to the club, with many reports on a daily basis claiming that an agreement with the player has been reached, but the club are struggling to agree a club fee with Leverkusen.
However, Rumours have circulated that Blues director Granovskaia has been speaking to contacts in Germany, seeking information on Leverkusen’s setup that could help when haggling over a transfer fee for star midfielder Havertz.
But now Chelsea have issued a firm denial of those claims, . Chelsea spokesman told the PA news agency: “We vigorously deny these suggestions; these claims are a complete fabrication,”
Granovskaia oversees Chelsea’s transfer strategy, especially in terms of negotiation, and Stamford Bridge bosses have been frustrated by these latest claims over her conduct, to the point of issuing a robust rejection.
Havertz is understood to be intent on a move to Chelsea this summer, especially after seeing the club qualify for the Champions League ahead of next season.
This is a very interesting story and the fact that Chelsea have reacted just shows that it has touched a nerve in the Blues hierarchy, but after the club faced a transfer ban last summer, they do not want to do anything that could jeopardise this deal, and any other future deal.
On Havertz, it would be a massive shock to not see him make that big move to London by the end of the transfer window in October.
