Maurizio Sarri opens up and announces ‘he expected’ £400,000-a-week Chelsea Hazard deal and confirms ‘i will speak to the club now’
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has admitted that he expected Eden Hazard to leave the club and sign for Real Madrid.
There has been so much speculation in the media over the past few months about the possible destination of Hazard, as many Chelsea fans had hoped that he could be persuaded to ignore a possible move to Madrid and sign a new contract with the club.
However, that has not been in the case and many reports in the media have claimed that Chelsea have agreed a massive £115 million deal to sell the Belgian in the coming days, with Hazard reportedly getting around £400,000-a-week to leave the Premier League.
And after Hazard dropped a massive hint that he is leaving after his impressive two-goal performance against Arsenal in the Europa League, Sarri has now come out and admitted that he expected Hazard to leave the club months ago.
“As you know he’s a wonderful player but you have to spend 2-3 months to understand him as a man,” said Sarri on BT Sport.
“When you’re able to understand him as a man he’s a wonderful man.
“I knew that Eden wanted to leave, of course, but as I say in every press conference I want to respect his decision. Now I have to speak to my club.”
For us, he has been the best player at Chelsea for the last seven years. I think he has got himself up there amongst Europe’s best – he’s in the same breath as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
He is a bargain at the price of £115 million and he will be a massive loss to Chelsea and the Premier League, but it was probably the right time to leave the club as he simply could not have achieved much more than he already had at Chelsea.
He deserves that big move to La Liga to play under Zinedine Zidane at a club that he has dreamt of for the last few seasons, and although Chelsea will find it difficult to replace him, they are still European Champions for the next 12 months.
