£44 million Hysaj talks! Chelsea in deep discussions to wrap up world class January deal
There has been some fresh reports in the media which has again claimed Chelsea are in talks to seal a £44 million deal for Napoli defender Elaid Hysaj.
After a great start to the new Premier League season, Maurizio Sarri has seen his Chelsea side stutter over the past few weeks, as defensive frailties are beginning to show.
Brazilian David Luiz has not looked as impressive as he did at the start of the new season, while Andreas Christensen could be leaving and Antonio Rudiger has been steady, but not solid enough to be a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.
That has led to constant speculation that Chelsea will delve into their transfer kitty over the next few windows and try to solve their main issues, with Hysaj a player that is top of the shopping list for Sarri.
The pair worked together at Napoli and the defender was reportedly keen to follow the Italian to London last summer, only for the Italians to pull out of a deal after they allowed Jorginho to leave.
However, the daily Star website has now claimed Chelsea have opened talks with Napoli about a possible £44 million deal for Hysaj, as the Blues are keen to get the transfer over the line ahead of a possible upcoming transfer ban.
Chelsea have been playing with fire and are under investigation for signing under-age players, with speculation that could be banned for the next four transfer windows.
Will Hysaj be a good buy for Chelsea?
If the reports are true and Chelsea have begun talks to bring Hysaj to the Premier League, then it will certainly add a bit of power to the back-line, as the defender has a no-nonsense attitude.
He has proven that he is able to deal with even the best of strikers across Europe, and at £44 million, he could be a real bargain.
However, Napoli are notorious for getting top dollar for their players and will probably make Chelsea pay closer to the £60 million to complete a deal.
