CHELSEA have held talks with Porto to sign goalkeeper Diogo Costa, according to Simon Phillips’

Man United have been eyeing up the Porto goalkeeper as their long-term replacement for David de Gea, whose Old Trafford future remains subject to considerable doubt with many rumours suggesting the club are ready to cash in.

However, the likes of Andre Onana, David Raya and Bart Verbruggen are also said to be under consideration by United, leaving Chelsea the chance to pounce for Costa.

WHAT IS THE LATEST –

According to Phillips – Chelsea have been working on a deal for the Portuguese ‘keeper and are willing to pay his £64.5m release clause in instalments.

The Blues are also eager to find a new No1 for Mauricio Pochettino this summer with Edouard Mendy leaving for Saudi Arabia and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future also uncertain

WOULD COSTA BE A GOOD CHELSEA SIGNING?

Although adding a new stopper to the side is on the agenda of Pochettino – there are other areas of the pitch that need to be improved before a new goalkeeper arrives.

Costa is a very good stopper and could be a brilliant signing – but a new defender – right-back – midfielder and definitely a striker need to be signed very soon.

There are many more weeks left of the window – it will be interesting to see just who CHELSEA manage to sign and who else departs

But Costa could be a man that arrives at the club and makes an immediate impact – he is better than Kepa and Mendy – and could be a very good addition to that Chelsea side.

the Blues are in need of a new stopper – so yes – he would be a very good signing for the club
