Offers made as Lampard decides he wants exciting £20 million full-back at Chelsea this summer
Chelsea are determined to keep hold of Reece James and have knocked back two fresh offers for the right-back.
Despite the fact that Chelsea are unable to sign any players this transfer window and bring in the kind of faces that would help take the club to that next level, there has been a lot of transfer speculation about the club in the media.
Frank Lampard has big issues on his hands now that he is boss of Chelsea, as he will be unable to improve on key areas of the pitch, namely the strike-force and the defensive back-line.
Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham may be the answer to the Blues attacking issues, but ask any Chelsea fan about which player they’re most excited about and nine times out of ten they’ll say James.
Although he’s injured for the start of the new campaign, 19-year-old James went from strength to strength this season and is now viewed as one of the best young English players around.
His performances for Wigan last season meant he was named Wigan’s Player of the Season and also featured in the Championship Team of the Year.
Crystal Palace bid £25m for the highly-rated youngster, as well as proposing an 18-month loan with a big payment up front, but the London Evening Standard reckon both bids to take James to south London were rejected.
Lampard and Jody Morris are said to have assured James he will be handed plenty of game time should he stay at Chelsea.
James knows that a return to Chelsea may not guarantee him anymore game time that he wants, and the best thing for his developing career is to leave, but this is the best time for him to take his chance.
Lampard will be brought in to give the younger players a chance to shine at Stamford Bridge, and James knows that he would be given more of a chance in the Blues side now the club are unable to do any transfer business.
The Blues have been linked with some world class players over the last few months, but James has the potential to be a superstar, and could save the club around £50 million in transfer funds.
