‘Chelsea stuffed if they sell Jorginho & don’t sign cover’ – defensive midfielder expected to be signed by Blues

Craig Burley has claimed Chelsea will be “stuffed” if they agree to sell Jorginho and do not bring in another defensive midfielder

Despite being an invaluable member of the side before the coronavirus stopped football from being played, There has been big transfer speculation in the media that Jorginho could leave the club when the transfer window opens up.

He has barely featured for Chelsea since the re-start of football and has barely featured in the starting eleven of Frank Lampard, who has preferred the younger players in his chase to get back inside those top four spots.

And the former Napoli star has been linked with a return to Italy, with another reunion with former Blues boos Maurizio Sarri being mooted at Juventus, and Burley believes that another experienced option would be required if Jorginho is moved on.

The former Blues midfielder told ESPN FC: “Well you’ll have N’Golo Kante to play the defensive role, which looks likely.

“Billy Gilmour’s come in but he’s a young man learning the game and that’s a lot to ask, but he’ll get some game time.

“Kovacic is there, Barkley’s had game time, [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek is back although he’s more attacking.

“But I suppose the answer would be to have protection, if Frank Lampard sees it that way, if there’s an injury to N’Golo Kante, they’re kind of going to be stuffed for somebody who can play a deeper-lying midfield role and protect that back four.”

Look, if Jorginho does leave the club in the transfer window, then yes Lampard needs to bring in an experienced player that will help the younger players at the club, simply because they already have enough exciting talents in the side.

Will he leave though you ask? if the right offer comes in from Juventus and Chelsea have an immediate replacement in mind, then yes he will leave the club.

  1. matches are not won by defenders own their own.currently at chelsea criticism is leveled against kepa and his defence. lampard never criticise his number 9 and 10 despite being totally blunt. great teams are great because of great midfilders and strikers. Chelsea was great because of drogda, anelka, ballack, lampard, hazard, essein , mikel, malouda, , Matic and makelele. they greatly assisted their defenders. at the moment there is only 1 mildfielder kante, 2 forwards, willian and pulisic. and rest are poorly managed. some are overrated and rushed to lead the frontline when they are the most ineffective. the likes of abraham, mount , reece christensen and barkley are never criticised by the coach yet they are the worst culprits. Sarri, Conte, Ancelotti and Mourinho never rushed novices the way we see today and the team achieved a lot. chelsea achilles is the midfield . we need a matic or an essein or a mikel or a ballack o complement kante and protect and give confidence to the defence.
