Chelsea keen to hold talks with £150k-a-week midfielder amid latest rumours
CHELSEA are ‘keen’ to hold talks over a new contract with Mateo Kovacic, but the midfielder wants to assess his options – journalist Simon Phillips has told GIVEMESPORT.
Over the past few windows, Chelsea have spent some serious money and brought in a number of players that has made the squad one of the biggest in the Premier League.
Add that to the fact that is expected to be some move signings at the end of the season – and it will mean that a few players in the squad will no longer be needed, and will need to get sold.
According to the Telegraph, Kovacic is facing a big decision over his Chelsea career after attracting attention from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are determined to avoid a situation where the Croatia international will enter the final 12 months of his contract and leave for cheap and are eager to tie him down to a new deal.

But time is running out for Chelsea as Kovacic’s current agreement, and he is holding off agreeing a new contract for now while he assesses his options, according to Phillips.
Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea have been keen to speak to him, recently, over a new contract. That’s not happened yet and there are no signs of those talks starting up, as of now.
“Also, on Kovacic’s side of things, he is keen to explore all of his options this summer and will be looking at interest coming in as well as sitting down with Chelsea and at least speaking about a contract if he feels that’s what he wants to do.
“But it is open and I can definitely see Kovacic potentially leaving Chelsea in the summer.”
