‘Many talks in progress’ Chelsea coach Cech opens up and has stunning Lampard message for fans
New Chelsea coach Petr Cech has claimed that Frank Lampard is one of several candidates for the job at Stamford Bridge.
After months of transfer rumours, it looked set that Lampard was clear to make that move back to Stamford Bridge this summer and try to lead the club into a new era, with many believing he is Roman Abramovic’s number one target.
Recent reports even suggested that Lampard had already agreed a massive £5.5 million-a-season deal to make that special return, with the compensation package with Derby the only thing holding up a move.
But now it seems that he is not the only man in the running to take over at Chelsea after Cech opened up and announced there are a number of other names in talks to make a move to the Blues on the coming days.
He told Czech News Agency: ‘The club has identified several candidates, the situation is open, ‘Frank is one of them. Before the first team begins preparations we want to solve the issue of the new manager.
‘The most important thing is to choose a new manager, it will be crucial in the context of further work.
‘The coach will have ideas for the team, we will be completing the team for next season. He will have to look at the players and decide who will go to Japan.’
There have been many managers linked with the job, Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez, Lampard, Max Allegri and even Diego Simeone over the past few months, but all indications suggested that it was Lampard who would be leading the club.
He may not be the most experienced of bosses, and may not have the management skills of the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola, but if Chelsea are prepared to give him time to settle back at the club, he could be a great manager for the Blues.
He knows what Abramovic wants and expects, and also knows the club inside out, so if there was anyone that was able to give the club a massive summer boost, it could be this man.
