Chelsea fans told why Record-goalscorer Lampard wants to make move to Stamford Bridge

Derby owner Mel Morris has discussed his club’s decision to let Chelsea speak to Frank Lampard this transfer window.

After months of speculation Chelsea and Maurizio Sarri decided to part ways and the Italian managed to secure a move to Seria A Champions Juventus.

That left the door open for Lampard to get that dream move back to Stamford Bridge, with Roman Abramovic doing all he possibly can to convince the midfielder to sign a deal.

And after announcing that Lampard is free to talks to Chelsea, Morris has opened up on the reasons why he has decided to let his impressive boss leave the club.

He told talkSPORT: “When Frank met me for the first time we talked about this opportunity and even then we knew at some stage this was going to happen [him being offered the Chelsea job], we just didn’t know when.

“So we talked about that and we both probably thought it would be some way off and, let’s face it, right now it’s still not a done deal.

“Let’s be blunt, as far as I’m concerned I’m hoping this guy is going to manage us next season. I’m not giving up hope on that at the moment.

“But you’d have to say at some point it will happen – whether it’s now or some point in the future. For Frank Lampard it’s a win-win. He can’t lose in this situation.”

Lampard back to Chelsea is a dream for many, but the man still has a lot to prove and will be under intense pressure from Abramovic as soon as he signs that deal.

He will be expected to bring instant success to the club and if he does not bring the kind of results the Russian wants, he could be getting the sack very quickly.

This move bakc to Chelsea may not be the right one for this stage of his managerial career.
