Lampard confirms offers and admits powerhouse defender Zouma wanted at Chelsea
LAMPARD KEEN ON IMPRESSIVE ZOUMA
Frank Lampard has admitted that he had no intention of letting defender Kurt Zouma leave during the summer transfer window.
Zouma spent the season on loan with the Toffees, making the move to Merseyside after being told he was surplus to requirements for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea side and it was Zouma’s third loan spell away from Stamford Bridge since moving to the Premier League side in 2014, and the Frenchman has helped Everton keep seven clean sheets last season.
But with Chelsea facing a transfer ban, boss Lampard made the decision to bring him back to the side for this season as he needed to add some strength in depth to an area of the pitch that they are most probably weakest in, and the powerhouse has not let the Chelsea ide down since Antonio Rudiger picked up an injury.
And Lampard has come out and admitted that Zouma has impressed him this season and he was never going to let the defender leave on a permanent basis, telling the Metro: ‘He has been fantastic. There was a belief that I had in Kurt because there was interest in the summer after we all know he had a very good loan at Everton last year.
‘But I believed in him as I believed in Tomori – that is why I made the decisions I made pre-season in terms of where we were going to look defensively.
“It has been nice to get some stability, albeit because of injuries, between him and Fikayo in the last games. It has been good to get them playing together to see the little bond they are getting on and off the pitch. It is a nice little story and it must continue, I suppose.’
Look Zouma may not be the most gifted of central defenders in the game and he still has a lot of developing to do before he comes a top level Premier League player, but he has shown a hunger and desire to impress at the club when he is needed most, and that is why he is getting the game time.
He has been impressive in the back-line for CHELSEA this season and although we believe a big named signing would be an ideal partner for Fikayo Tomori, many Chelsea fans do not have a bad word to say about Zouma right now.
He deserves the chance to prove himself in this Chelsea side.
