Brazilian defender Megalhaes opens up about signing with the Chelsea in the summer window
Brazilian defender Gabriel Megalhaes has admitted that he is flattered by the links with Chelsea.
There has been a shutdown of football over the last few months and many fans have become frustrated at the lack of action during the Coronavirus outbreak, but that has not stopped speculation about possible arrivals to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Frank Lampard knows that he needs to sign defenders in the summer as the current crop are not quite good enough, and he has been linked with a whole host of players over the last few months, but it seems that he could be set to hijack Everton’s move for Gabriel
Gabriel is the latest player to rise to prominence at Lille having joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Brazilian minnows Avai FC in 2017, and recent reports suggested Everton have had an offer for his services accepted with The Independent reporting that the 22-year-old had already passed off-site medical checks.
However, recent reports on ESPN claim the Lille youngster, who’s 22, is one of the Blues’ top transfer targets, and Frank Lampard is reported to be impressed by Magalhaes aggressive, no-nonsense style of play and is now ready to make sure that he brings the unit to Chelsea for a fee of around £30 million.
Now, amid all the speculation, he was Asked about the recent rumours, Gabriel told Brazilian outlet UOL: ‘I follow, but I try to stay apart. I always tell my managers that, at this moment, I want to know as little as possible so as not to lose focus on the pitch.
‘I am happy to see my name being linked with great teams. It shows that the work I’ve done so far has been good.
‘I also see many fans of the two teams commenting on my posts on Instagram [laughs]. It’s funny.’
Asked about the recent rumours, he added::‘But we have to be calm with all this. It is early and I renewed my contract with Lille until 2023.
‘The focus now is to return to play and end the season in high level, qualifying Lille for the 2020/21 Champions League.’
The defender is certainly ready to make the big move to a big club, but is he really the man to solve the issues in the Chelsea back-line.
