Reports have claimed Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is also lining up a January move for unhappy Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, as he wants a new forward this January.

Icardi is firmly regarded as one of the best strikers in world football after scoring 29-goals in Seria A last season and was heavily linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge, but Sarri moved to London far too late to complete a £110 million deal and in the end Milan started negotiations over a new contract as they planned on keeping the Argentine hitman.

However, recent reports from Italy have claimed Icardi is demanding €8m (£7.2m) plus bonuses to renew a new deal at the club, but Inter are only prepared to offer €6.5m (£5.70m) plus bonuses as they feel he only ha a few good years left in him and do not want to give him an over the odds contract.

And according to the Daily Star website, Sarri is now ready to convince the Chelsea board to splash the cash in just a few months time and try to seal a deal for Iacrdi, although the Italians would be demanding a fee close to the £90 million mark.

A hefty £65m was spent to bring Alvaro Morata to west London from Real in 2017 but so far the Spanish hitman has failed to live upto expectations and there is speculation that he would be sold to finance a move for Icardi, as the Milan star would certainly be an upgrade after such a prolific few seasons in Seria A.

Milan are keen to keep hold of Icardi,, but are not prepared to budge too much on the high wages Icardi is asking, meaning Chelsea could get their man if the right amount of money is offered.

Could Icardi really end up at Chelsea?

The answer is yes he could.

Maurizio Sarri is not happy with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, and will seek to sign a big named striker either in January or the summer.

And he is a known admirer of Icardi, who netted 29-goals in Serie A last season, but it is unclear whether Chelsea will meet the £110 million release clause Icardi has in his contract.

However, with speculation Eden Hazard could leave at the end of the season, Chelsea will need a world class striker to come in and fill the goals Hazard brings to the side, as there are not many wingers out there that can do what the Belgian does on a regular basis.

So it will be interesting to see how this one plays out, as Inter cannot afford to lose Icardi but Chelsea need a striker that can score
