Exciting midfielder Mount as Chelsea message for Lampard after signing big five-year Blues deal
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount says he is inspired by “role model” Frank Lampard who he expects to give him his first-team chance.
With Chelsea unable to sign any new players this transfer window, it means that new boss Lampard will have to rely on a number of his youth players to make an impact at the club ahead of the new season.
And Mount, who played under Lampard at Derby last season, is expected to be given a big role at Stamford Bridge this coming year, especially after agreeing a big five-year deal to stay at Chelsea.
And mount, who scored eight goals in 35 games as the Rams reached the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, says he is learning daily off mentor Lampard, and is looking forward to proving himself in the first-team.
He said on the Chelsea website: “Being a midfielder and being at Chelsea you obviously look at him as a role model.
“For me working with him last year, and also this year, I have learnt so much off him. Speaking with him day in, day out I’ve been getting little stuff off his game, like him talking to me and telling me how to get into the box.
“I’m learning off him every day and it’s very exciting. You can see the group of players that we have is world class.
“For me coming into this team and working with them each day.”
Mount has bags of potential and under the guidance of Lampard, who knows the qualities of the young man, he should develop nicely over the next few seasons.
And many are excited to see just how the new look Chelsea will do this coming season, especially as they have been written off by many in the media.
So if Mount is able to get some much needed guidance from Lampard, then he could become a real star at the club, especially as he has proven already that he has the ability to score goals on a regular basis from midfield.
