Chelsea target Wilfried Zaha needs to leave Crystal Palace and join a club if he wants to fulfil his potential, according to former Eagles stopper Nigel Martyn.
Zaha has been in the transfer headlines all summer as a number of top clubs have been linked with a possible move ever since he admitted that he is eyeing up playing at the very top of the game.
But it is Arsenal who have shown the most interest in a potential deal for the winger and there has been constant speculation that Unai Emery was desperate to add another top-class winger to the squad and had targeted the impressive Englishman.
However, there is some talk that Chelsea may decide to make a move in the January transfer window to try and secure a deal for Zaha for next summer, as they are still unable to register players in the winter window, but can agree a deal for when they can wrap up a deal next summer.
And they have now seen Martyn tells the winger that he needs to leave for a big club: “If a player wants to go enough and is desperate enough to leave then it’s possibly not in your best interests to try and keep him because you then have a player who doesn’t want to be there,” he told 888Sport.
“Not that Wilf wants to let the club down in any way. He loves Crystal Palace. He just wants a chance to further his career and go to potentially a bigger club.
“That’s the type of club he needs to move to. He needs a club that is challenging for the Champions League because that’s the standard that he’s at.
Roma have confirmed the loan signing of Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta.
The Italian defender only signed for Chelsea two seasons ago on transfer deadline day and was hailed as a great signing for former boss Antonio Conte, as he looked to shore up his defence.
He played a big part in the Blues season, featuring in 38 games for the Blues as they only managed a fifth place finish and a shock FA Cup win over Manchester United.
However, he has failed to make much of an impact at the Blues since then and has been linked with a move away from the club for the last few transfer windows, especially as new boss Frank Lampard showed no desire to give him a second chance at the club, despite the fact he cannot buy any new players.
But the Italy international has now joined the Giallorossi on an initial six-month loan deal, which the Serie A giants will have the option to extend in January 2020.
“AS Roma are pleased to confirm the signing of Davide Zappacosta from Chelsea on a temporary deal,” a Roma statement read on their website
“Zappacosta joins the Giallorossi from the English club on an initial six-month loan which runs until January 2020.
“As part of the deal, there is the option to extend the loan until 30 June 2020.”
Reports have claimed Chelsea are one of a number of clubs that have registered their interest in Bundesliga sensation Kai Havertz.
Chelsea were unable to sign any players during the summer transfer window, meaning that Frank Lampard was unable to acquire the type of players that will come in and help him play the kind of football that he wants to employ at Stamford Bridge.
However, there is much speculation in the media that he will be handed £200 million next summer to acquire players, especially as Chelsea sold £130 million worth of talent during the summer, and the former midfielder can start lining up possible signings.
And one name that has been mentioned in the media lately is Havertz, who is one of the games brightest talents.
Havertz racked up 17 Bundesliga goals last season, the most ever managed by a teenager, and reports on Sport 1 have claimed that Chelsea have joined the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool by registering their interest in the brilliantly gifted midfielder.
But Havertz has become such in-demand that clubs will now have to pay closer to the £90 million mark to secure a deal, as the Germans are hoping a high price tag will put off a number of Europes top clubs.
Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen will surely leave Spurs, but would he be a good signing for Chelsea?
