Chelsea can seal deal as £70m target asks for move, £40m star perfect signing, Pulisic ‘has big Chelsea problems’
Here is a roundup of the latest Chelsea news from icfootballnews.
Chelsea have been left on hot alert after long-term target Thomas Muller reportedly asked to leave Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And despite having the brilliant Tammy Abraham up front scoring on a regular basis for the club, there is still a need to add some back-up for the young Englishman as he will not be able to do everything on his own, meaning Chelsea will need to add a top-class striker to the squad in the coming windows.
After 19 years with the club, Bild report that Muller has decided to leave after growing tired of a lack of playing time under Kovac, as Muller has started just three league games this term and has lost his spot in the side to Philippe Coutinho, who joined the club from Barcelona last summer.
The German’s current deal runs until 2021 and it has been reported that the German giants would be seeking a massive £70 million to let one of the biggest players go, especially as they will want to use those funds to help on improve the current side.
Former Blues striker Chris Sutton has warned Christian Pulisic that he has a big problem at Chelsea.
There has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few days which has suggested that Pulisic may seek a loan move away from the club during the January transfer window if his game time does not improve under the guidance of Lampard.
The 21-year-old has struggled to nail down a place at Chelsea, despite being tipped to be the ideal Eden Hazard replacement, and has already vented his frustrations at being dropped from the Chelsea starting line-up over the past few weeks.
But Pulisic returned to Lampard’s squad for the visit to Southampton at the weekend and helped the Blues pick up a very comfortable 4-1 victory over the saints, and after the American grabbed an assist off the bench against Southampton, Lampard told the winger he needs to work hard to get back into the sideLampard told the winger he needs to work hard to get back into the sideLampard told the winger he needs to work hard to get back into the side.
Sutton says Pulisic can still revive his Chelsea career and prove his worth to Lampard but insists the 21-year-old faces an uphill battle to cement a place in the starting XI at the Bridge.
‘Pulisic has to prove himself,’ Sutton told Radio 5 LiveRadio 5 LiveRadio 5 Live. ‘Frank Lampard has no agenda against him, he’s picking the best possible team to win games of football, that’s his job.
‘He wasn’t Frank’s signing, of course. ‘With Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount coming to the fore, he’s going to have a major problem getting into the starting line-up. I really do think that. ‘I don’t see a way in for him at the moment. It’s a lot of money to spend and it would be interesting to ask Frank now if he would sign him at this moment in time if he hadn’t signed him before?
‘The answer to that, I think, is pretty obvious – he wouldn’t. But, there’s a reason Chelsea spent the money on him, he’s still a young man and got enormous talent, he has to go out and show it.
‘It’s good for Frank in terms of strength in depth.’ Pulisic admits he was ‘hurt’ to be snubbed by Lampard earlier in the season but says he will ‘keep working harder’ in order to win the Chelsea manager around.
