Chelsea board sent clear message about giving midfielder £200k-a-week contract he wants to sign up

Pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has told CHELSEA to avoid giving playmaker Mason Mount a £200,000 per week contract this summer.

Mason Mount has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this season as it looks like he is pricing himself out of a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed on many occasions that Mount is seeking a deal close to the £200k-a-week mark – which is far more than the Chelsea board are keen to pay the England International.

That has led to many reports that the like of Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in a deal for Mount – and now Agbonlahor has claimed that the Blues should not give into the demands of the midfielder.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said: “He has scored 27 goals in 129 appearances. He is not fantastic, is he? He is not. The stats show that he is not. He is an okay player, but he is not outstanding.”

He added: “Look at Arsenal. Odegaard has got 14 goals this season. Mason Mount has scored 27 in 129 games.

“He is not adding enough to the team to warrant £200,000-a-week new contract. He is not doing enough to warrant a new contract.”

Mount is a very gifted midfielder that has been brilliant at times for CHELSEA – but he is not a £200k-a-week midfielder and the Blues should not give him the contract he deserves.

There are other players out there that would do a better job than Mount – so they should let him leave and get the money that he would generate – as it would go a long way into signing a better replacement.

It will just be interesting to see where the lad goes as it seems that the Premier League si where he would like to stay.
