Chelsea to make record-breaking Haaland move with Lamps eager to add striker to side
Fresh reports have again claimed that Chelsea are plotting another record-breaking move to try and sign Erling Haaland
Haaland has firmly established himself as one of the very best attackers in the game right now and his performances over the past 24 months has meant that he is now one of the most deadly forwards in the game.
He has netted 34 goals in just 33 games for Borussia Dortmund, but there has been rumours that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City may be open to the idea of bringing the hitman to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.
But now the Athletic has claimed that Chelsea are looking to spend some serious money and break the club record to bring Haaland to Stamford Bridge, with Frank Lampard eager to add a top forward to his ranks to boost his side’s chances of competing for Premier League and Champions League honours.
The Norway international has a €75 million (£67m/$91m) release clause in his current contract, but it doesn’t become active until 2022, meaning BVB will likely demand a much higher fee for a prized asset before sanctioning his departure this year
former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo is not surprised by the speculation, but says Frank Lampard has enough firepower at his disposal and could look to use Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner in tandem, The ex-Blues star, who hit 50 goals for the club, told Bookmakers.co.uk: “There are a lot of rumours and it’s hard to comment on them until they become more than just rumours. But a club like Chelsea will always look to be in the market for a striker.”
Flo, who was with Chelsea between 1997 and 2000, added on the potential for Lampard to use Werner and Abraham as a strike pairing: “I think they can work together.
“I don’t think they’ve quite found the right rhythm to maximise a partnership just yet, but I think they can do – there’s more to come.
“As a striker you need goals and finally Werner found the net again and hopefully that can instil confidence and he’ll continue to score.
“He’s more than capable of doing well in the league, it’s just about getting a few goals and getting that confidence up.”
Look, there has been some issues at Chelsea this season, and the forwards are not finding the net like they should be. But at the end of the day, will they really wants to spend £130 million on trying to acquire Haaland when they they enough attackers already?
