Sarri announces Eriksen interest as Chelsea, Spurs fans left stunned after Kane claim
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has told Tottenham that he would prefer to sign Christian Eriksen, rather than star man Harry Kane.
Kane is now fully regarded as one of the best strikers on the planet after developing into a deadly assassin in front of goal and has been on the radar of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona over the last few seasons.
But another player linked with a possible move to Stamford Bridge is that of Eriksen, who is the clubs playmaker and arguably one of Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up, with the Danish star starting 99 per cent of Spurs games over the last few seasons.
However, there has been some talk over the last few weeks that he could be departing Spurs in the coming transfer windows, with speculation increasing that Spurs are not prepared to give him the kind of contract offer that he wants, and Chelsea have been linked with a possible move.
And amid the speculation Chelsea are keen on a deal, Sarri has admitted that he would prefer the signing of Eriksen over a deal for Kane, telling the Metro website: ‘Of course Harry Kane is the best English striker in the moment, so a very important player, but if I have to say another name, I like very much Eriksen.
‘Why? Because he is a very smart player, a very technical player. He’s able to play in midfield and, at the same moment, score eight or nine goals in a season.
‘I think that he is a very important player.
‘I like him very much, but I don’t want to talk about a player of Tottenham for the market, of course. I only answered a [hypothetical] question.’
Would Chelsea fans prefer Eriksen over Kane?
Chelsea are packed with world class midfielders that would walk into most sides in the Premier League, so adding a new one is not a top priority and especially a player that angers so many Spurs fans for his performances.
Eriksen only seems to come alive in the less important matches for Tottenham and when it comes to games that actually matter, he is nowhere to be seen, so the fact Sarri would prefer him over a man that would add 30-40 goals a season is crazy.
Kane is one of the best strikers on the planet and any manager would love to have him, so if Chelsea fans had to choose, surely they would sign Kane over Etiksen?
