England boss Southgate opens up on possibly making stunning move to Chelsea this summer
England boss Gareth Southgate is not interested in the Chelsea job as a possible replacement for the departing Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri signed for Chelsea last summer after Blues owner Roman Abramovic fought so hard to acquire his services from Napoli, who were being very stubborn about him leaving the club.
Sarri was told that he was expected to get Chelsea back inside the top four spots and challenging for the Champions League next season, which he managed to accomplish with some fine performances towards the end of the season.
But then the Italian went and won the Europa League against the odds and against Arsenal, which should have cemented his stay at Stamford Bridge and ended all speculation regarding his future.
But Sarri is expected to leave Stamford Bridge imminently and take up the top role at Juventus, with the Italians keen to bring the Chelsea boss back to Italy and replace Max Allegri.
That has led to a lot of speculation in the media about whom could replace Sarri at Chelsea, with the likes of Allegri, Laurent Blanc, Frank Lampard and Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag all linked with the position.
But one man that does not fancy the Blues job right now is that of Southgate, who has led England into two semi-finals in the past couple of seasons.
When asked if he would be interested in the vacancy Southgate said on the Daily Express: “No. I’m committed to England, simple as that.
“I don’t need to hedge my bets in keeping doors open or keeping things alive. There’s no way that I would leave England at this moment in time, to take any job.”
Southgate has done a decent job as England manager and has some of the most exciting talents we have had in generations, so staying put is the best thing for him.
Chelsea will need a new manager and one that will be able to use the younger players, especially as Chelsea will be unable to sign players over the next few windows.
But who would fans like to see arrive?
