There has been some reports which have claimed that Chelsea are interested in Jordan Pickford – but they should stay well clear of the stopper according to reporter Iomie Stanley

The Everton ‘keeper has won 45 caps for his country and has been first choice for Gareth Southgate for years.

Pickford has been a reliable performer for Southgate since making his international debut in November 2017, but his club form has been less reliable, and has made a number of high-profile mistakes this season.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy have been battling for the first-choice goalkeeping position at Stamford Bridge, but neither has done enough to convince manager Graham Potter that they are the best long-term option, with the former Brighton boss on the lookout for goalkeeper who will be comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Jordan Pickford has now been identified as a possible alternative for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are interested in signing Pickford and will keep a close eye on him throughout the World Cup ahead of a possible move in the January window.

However – if you believe the words of Iomie Stanley – Chelsea should not be making a move for the man – he told icfootballnews:

‘Look Pickford is a decent stopper and makes some great saves for Everton – but he is not a top level goalkeeper and would be a massive mistake signing for Chelsea.

‘He makes far too many errors – his ball skills are not the best and he can be erratic – that is not what Potter needs to sign.

‘The former Brighton boss needs to make moves for players that are on that next level – that are proven at the highest level and that are proven in the Champions League.

‘Pickford may have a great world cup – he may shine – but look at his Everton record and you will see – that he is not a player that should be playing for a club like Chelsea that is for sure.

‘So as i said – he would not be a good signing for Chelsea
