Rams prepare for summer exit as Chelsea ‘have begun talks’ to get much talked about Lampard deal done
Chelsea are moving forward with their attempts to hire Frank Lampard as manager with Derby already preparing for his exit.
Despite the fact Maurizio Sarri managed to get Chelsea back inside the top three spots in the Premier League and also reach two finals, becoming European Champions last month, he is heading out of the club and back into Italian football with Juventus.
And that has led to speculation that Lampard could make a sensational return to Chelsea as boss at some point this summer window, after impressing at Derby this season with his tactics, man management and results with the Rams.
The bookies have made Lampard – who has guided Derby to the play-off final – the odds-on favourite to replace him, and reports on the Goal website have claimed Chelsea have already opened talks to sign Lampard from Derby.
Reports suggest Derby look resigned to losing Lampard this summer and they’ve started assessing potential candidates to replace him in the Pride Park dugout.
Lee Bowyer, the Charlton boss, is one coach being checked on after he brilliantly guided the Addicks back into the Championship via the League One play-offs.
Harry Redknapp has recently stated his nephew Lampard will eventually become Chelsea manager.
Redknapp said: “When Frank comes to Chelsea I will be there every weekend.
“He is going to go at some stage no doubt.
“His dad was incredible in training and Frank was the same. Every day he’d be out on the training ground.
“He couldn’t run, he wasn’t fast. He wasn’t an athlete. He practised he practised he practised. When he scored those free-kicks it wasn’t luck.”
Lampard is loved at Chelsea and is a real clubs legend, but he is not ready to lead such a big club like the Blues, and certainly not ready to work under Abramovic.
The Russian will sack the Englishman as soon as things turn sour, and although many Chelsea fans would love to see his return, for the sake of his career he needs to hold of making that move to Stamford Bridge right now.
Sarri has done a wonderful job at Chelsea this season and done more than what was asked of him, so losing him is a massive mistake.
